I think one of the hardest parts of being an author is balancing it with parenting. I have a very active teen boy and a young lady who both want my time. Sometimes it is hard to find time to write. I remember reading that Julie Garwood wrote in the morning before her children rose.

I am a true night owl. My worlds are reborn when the neighbor’s lights turn off, and a quiet settles over the night. Only the odd rumble of a car disturbs the flight of my imagination. I don’t think that my characters come from any individual people. Not like my friend Brenna Lyons who has 250 separate people in her world.

My characters flow and ebb.  I have to admit that Calum was born in the soul and courage of my husband. You’ll notice that in the fact that he is the ‘tall silent type’ even though today’s fiction is suppose to be driven by dialogue.

I love writing about the Stuart Era. I have another Work In Progress which celebrates the kindness of strong men, and the courage of a woman. It travels from the back depths of the highlands to Queen Mary’s French Court. I hope it will be a fun romp through history when I finish.

I am working on a bit every few nights, between hearing about my son’s girlfriend and the most recent catastrophe in my daughter’s life.
