The DIY Trap
Cats: Uncategorized|I use to be caught in the DIY trap. I believed that because I was a writer, and because I was a graphic artist with experience in the magazine business that I could make my own logos, business cards, etc. Then a friend who just left New York offered to make me a logo.
Well - I was shamed. It was wonderful - far better than what I had in mind. The thing is, you may know a bit about copy-writing, graphic art, etc. But, you can’t know what colors sell to what target demographics.
I was talking to people today asking if they were interested in getting 50k hits on their website a month. Their reply - I’ll do it myself. I laughed (to myself). This person has been working on multiple websites for more than 4 years. She has 12 websites, and is struggling to get 50k combined hits a year. I asked her what made her think she could get the hits. She couldn’t answer.
The DIY trap is attractive. There is so much information on the net that we think we can learn how to do things. In many aspects, we can become fairly competent, but we don’t ever catch the brass ring.
GPM is a company that gets traffic to websites. It took me more than 3 years to learn how to get 50k hits a month. I took several courses, and belong to the right associations. I also have a wide network that has taken years to build. I also work with other people who have networks. Not that I am saying you must hire a SEOmarketer to get hits. I am just saying, if DIY is not working - then find something that does.

Very true. Sometimes those with an entrepreneurial spirit need to learn that it’s sometimes worthwhile to invest in themselves and at times the art of delegation can be important!

Found this post via Dana’s blog, and it’s so true. You shouldn’t do everything yourself, when it will take an expert far less time.

I tend to try and do everything myself but it is quite often true that someone else has a different perspective and does it a lot better if I will allow them to
